Lego Club at Pou Whakaaro

What an Awesome First Week of LEGO Club at Pou Whakaaro!

This week our tamariki got busy building, creating, learning, and making new friends at LEGO Club.

Our first sessions focused on Whanaungatanga – getting to know each other, welcoming new tamariki, and working together as a team. Through LEGO challenges and group activities, children practised sharing ideas, taking turns, helping others, and building friendships.

As the week progressed, tamariki took on some exciting building challenges. They worked together to create towers and bridges that were tested for strength, balance, and stability.

Along the way they learned about:

  • Problem-solving – figuring out what worked and what didn't.

  • Resilience – trying again when their creations fell down.

  • Teamwork – listening to others and working together.

  • Creativity – using their imaginations to design unique builds.

  • Communication – explaining their ideas and helping each other.

One of the biggest lessons of the week was discovering that mistakes can help us learn. Some towers fell over, some bridges collapsed, but our tamariki kept adapting, rebuilding, and improving their designs until they were stronger than before.

After all that hard work, everyone enjoyed some delicious kai and a warm hot chocolate while sharing stories about what they had built and learned.

What our tamariki said they learned:

💬 "I learned that if my tower falls down, I can just build it again."

💬 "Working together makes a stronger tower."

💬 "I learned how to share LEGO and ideas."

💬 "My bridge was stronger when we worked as a team."

💬 "I learned how to balance the blocks better."

💬 "I made new friends."

💬 "I learned that everyone has different ideas and that's okay."

Of course, there was still plenty of fun!

💬 "It was cool!"

💬 "I enjoyed the LEGO towers."

💬 "I enjoyed playing LEGO, sharing stuff and eating."

💬 "I enjoyed building our whānau and building the tallest tower."

💬 "I love LEGO, it's the best in the whole universe and I love playing it with my friends."

One participant was especially excited about the LEGO, the activities, and (most importantly!) the food.

We are incredibly proud of our tamariki for showing courage, creativity, kindness, persistence, and teamwork throughout the week.

📅 LEGO Club runs every Tuesday and Thursday during the school holidays.

We can't wait to see what our amazing builders create next as we continue learning, building friendships, and having fun together.

This week we didn't just build towers and bridges — we built confidence, friendships, resilience, and a sense of belonging. 💛🧱
